Gen 2 is a well-loved generation in the Pokemon franchise, and my personal favorite generation. So what are the best, strongest Pokemon from the Gold and Silver games?

Let’s break down the top 10 gen 2 Pokemon!

Top 10 Strongest Gen 2 Pokemon

10) In spot number 10 is Steelix, whose base stats equal a total of 510. Steelix is a Steel/Ground-type Pokemon that evolves from Onix. Steelix’s Defense stat alone is 200, making it a very impressive defensive Pokemon.

9) Next we see Porygon2 with base stats of 515. This Normal-type Pokemon is the evolution of Porygon, and has a good distribution across its stats, with solid HP, Special Attack, Defense, and Special Defense.

8) There are actually 3 Pokemon that tie for spot number 8 with base stats of 525: Meganium, Espeon, and Umbreon. Meganium evolves from the Grass-type Chikorita and is the weakest of the starters, but has respectable Defense and Special Defense. Espeon and Umbreon evolve from the beloved Eevee, with Psychic-type Espeon having strong Speed and Special Attack and Dark-type Umbreon having strong HP and Defense and Special Defense.

6) In spot number 6 is Typhlosion with base stats of 534. Typhlosion is the final evolution of the Fire-type starter Cyndaquil and is the strongest of the starters for this generation. Typhlosion has especially high Speed and Special Attack.

4) There are 2 Pokemon that tie for spot number 4 with base stats of 540: Kingdra and Blissey. Kingdra is a Water/Dragon-type evolution of Seadra and has a solid stat spread with no real limitations, while Blissey is a Normal-type evolution for Chansey and has the highest HP stat of this generation at 25, as well as a very strong Special Defense.

3) Next we come to the Legendary Dog Trio: Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. They each have base stats of 580; the Electric-type Raikou boasts high Speed and Special Attack, the Fire-type has high Speed and Attack, and the Water-type Suicune is a bit slower but has strong Defense and Special Defense.

2) 2 Pokemon tie again for spot number 2 with base stats of 600: Tyranitar and Celebi. The Rock/Dark-type pseudo-legendary Tyranitar evolves from Pupitar and has high, well-spread stats for everything except for Speed. The Mythical Psychic/Grass-type Celebi has a perfectly even 100-point-spread across all stats, if you are lucky enough to have obtained one.

1) And in spot number 1 there is no surprise - we have the box Legendaries Lugia and Ho-Oh with a base stat total of 680. Lugia is a Psychic/Flying-type Pokemon that has very high HP, Defense, Special Defense, and Speed, while Ho-Oh is a Fire/Flying-type Pokemon with very high Attack, Special Attack, and Special Defense. Both Pokemon are, of course, power choices for any team.
